Start Where Everything All Started January 24, 2008

I decided to start learning Linux in depth by tinkering on the first Linux ever – Slackware. I have heard many horror stories about it being an advanced distro that only geeks dare to tread. But I know of no way to learn Linux best but by doing it. I learn best by example and by doing.

I’m scared.

In the amazing chance that I get it working, it’s going to be Linux From Scratch for me. The ultimate test of whether I am worthy of pursuing a career in Linux.

I also like to go for Debian since it seems a gentler-but-still-not-for-the-average-user distro than any of the above. But I am more after the depth of knowledge I could learn rather than the ease of installation.

It’s a lonely journey and I am getting discouraged just by looking at the amount of cryptic and unintelligible command entries one must type on the command line. But I need to work for food so I need to learn all these.

Not to mention I only have one PC I could tinker with.

Good luck to me. I’ll need it.
